Christmas time is my favorite time of the year. My kids love a good movie night and themed snacks are always a plus. These Grinch Cookies are our favorite!

We love our Christmas movie time and the Grinch is one where we make a lot of treats. Try my other How the Grinch Stole Christmas treats like my Grinch Popcorn and Grinch Rice Krispie Treats!

    How to make Grinch Cookies:

These fun and festive Grinch cookies are nothing like the name gives off. They are a nice soft, chewy buttery sugar cookie that is dyed Grinch green and mixed in with red M&M's.

Mix your wet and dry ingredients separately and then mix together. Once mixed fold in your M&M's and then chill. Once chilled roll into cookie dough balls and bake.

    Ingredients:

    • All-Purpose Flour
    • Baking Powder
    • Salt
    • Butter (softened)
    • Cream Cheese (softened)
    • Sugar
    • Egg
    • Almond Extrct
    • Vanilla Extract
    • Green Food Coloring
    • Red M&M's

    Directions:

Step one: Use a small mixing bowl to whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Then set aside for later.

Step two: In a separate larger mixing bowl or in your stand mixer cream together butter and cream cheese until creamy.

Step three: Add in sugar and continue to mix until light and fluffy. Next, add in your egg along with your almond and vanilla extract. Last mix in your green dye. Add more as needed to get the color you want.

Step four: Slowly add your dry ingredients into your mixer with your wet ingredients until well combined. Cover and chill for 1 hour or overnight.

    • Do I have to chill? Yes chilling is very important for this recipe. It helps your cookies hold shape while baking.

    Baking Directions:

Step five: Now Preheat oven to 350 degrees and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step six: Roll dough into balls (about 2 tablespoons per cookie) and place it on your prepared baking sheet. Place red M&Ms on top of your cookies.

Step seven: Bake for 14-15 minutes then allow cooling on the pan for 5 minutes before allowing them to cool completely on a rack.

Do I have to chill these cookies?

Even though these cookies are pretty easy to make they are a no step-skipping cookie!

If you are in a rush and need cookies to take to school in 30 minutes or less then this is not your recipe.

If you don't want the cookie batter to run and you want soft chewy cookies you have to chill them for at least 2 hours.

You could always mix them up and leave them to chill overnight. I use melted chocolate in the recipe so they make them super gooey and delicious but also hard to roll and pretty sticky which is why chilling is a must.
