I love the taste of a roasted vegetable. This recipe for Simple Roasted Asparagus is a favorite of mine and the best way to make asparagus.

Roasted Asparagus on a baking sheet

    Pick the best Asparagus

When shopping for asparagus you want to make sure they are not too thin or thick.

Thin spears can overcook easily and thick spears can be too tough. Finding something in the middle is best.

You also want to make sure your asparagus is green without any browning and firm.

    Ingredients:

To make roasted asparagus you only need a few simple ingredients.

    • asparagus
    • oil: while you can use most any oil for this recipe a good quialty olive oil will be your best option.
    • salt: I like using kosher or sea salt for this recipe.
    • pepper
    • garlic powder
    • lemon juice: this step is optional but I love adding fresh lemon juice to my asparagus when serving.

    Asparagus on a cutting boars

    Instructions:

Step one: Start by prepping your asparagus and snap off the ends.

    • Pro Tip: You want to keep the head of your asparagus but get rid of the hard bottom piece. When snapping off the ends break each asparagus right after the hard bottom leaving only the softer pieces. (the harder pieces are usually lighter in color)

Step two: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Prepare a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

Step three: Drizzle oil over asparagus and toss to coat.

Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder then toss again to coat asparagus.

    • Pro Tip: Use as much or little seasoning that you desire. This this recipe is basic I always suggest to use your taste when using salt and pepper.

    Baking Directions

Step four: Bake for 12-15 minutes until your asparagus is tender but not flimsy.

Sprinkle with lemon juice just before serving.

    • Baking Tip: Time will vary based on the size of your asparagus. The asparagus pictured is the smaller side and cooked faster. Keep a close eye on them since they can quickly become limp and flimsy.

    FAQ:

    • Should I wash my asparagus? Yes, before seasoning it's best to wash and pat dry the asparagus.
    • Why is my asparagus stringy? Stringy asparagus is usually from over-cooking. I would suggest reducing your cooking time or buying a little larger size spear next time.
