This simple Strawberry Shortcake is the perfect dessert. Made with a sweet biscuit-like cake and topped with sweet strawberries and whipped cream. It’s one of my favorite desserts.

Strawberry Shortcake

Dessert is better pilled high with fruit! This Strawberry Shortcake is a classic and one of my favorite dessert recipes. We love making it in the spring and serving it with fresh strawberries that have been chilled and a big dollop of whipped cream. Strawberry shortcake is a sweet cake that actually has more of a biscuit texture. It actually got its name shortcake because of the way it is made it is literally a short cake, not tall. This recipe is so simple to make and I think you will love it.

Strawberry Shortcake

Strawberry Shortcake:

Step one: Start by prepping your strawberries. Juicy and sweet strawberries taste so much better on shortcake. Start by washing and dicing your strawberries. Place your strawberries in a mixing bowl. Add in 4 tablespoons of sugar, more or less to taste, and mix well. Cover and place strawberries in the fridge to chill until cake is ready to serve. Your strawberries only need a little while in the fridge an hour should do the trick.

Step two: Now it is time to get started on your cake. Preheat the oven and then prepare your baking dish. For this recipe, I used an 8-inch square baking pan and prepared it with non-stick cooking spray.

Step three: Mix together your flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt. Add in heavy cream and use a wooden spoon to mix until combined. Place this in your prepared baking dish. You want a gentle mix but no lumps. You can use a whisk if you need just don’t over mix.

Step four: Bake until cooked through. You can use a toothpick to poke and if it comes out clean then you know that it is cooked through. Allow your cake to cool for 5 minutes then slice into squares.

How to serve:

Serve shortcake squares topped with chilled strawberries and whipped cream.
