Place diced and washed strawberries in a mixing bowl. Add in 4 tablespoons of sugar, more or less to taste, and mix well. Cover and place strawberries in the fridge to chill until cake is ready to serve.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Prepare a 8-inch square baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
Shirt together your flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt. Add in heavy cream and use a wooden spoon to mix until combined. Place this in your prepared baking dish.
Bake for 18-20 minutes or until cooked through. Allow to cool for 5 minutes then slice into squares.
Serve shortcake squares topped with chilled strawberries and whipped cream.
