My mother-in-law is the one who first made these for us. She whipped up a batch for a quick lunch during a visit, and I was hooked after one bite.

I’ll always love a classic hot dog in a bun, but wrapping it in a crescent roll with a slice of cheese takes it to a whole new level.

These hot dog roll ups are one of my go-to lunches when I need something fast that everyone will actually eat. They’re also great for after-school snacks, sleepovers, or game day.

Ingredient Notes:

  • Crescent rolls: One 8 oz tube gives you 8 crescents, one for each hot dog. Store brand works just as well as Pillsbury. Skip the “Big & Flaky” cans since they only have 6 rolls.
  • Hot dogs: Use one 8-count pack. Beef, pork, turkey, or chicken hot dogs all work. Bun-length or jumbo dogs will stick out of the ends a bit, which is totally fine.
  • Colby Jack cheese: You’ll need 4 slices, cut in half, so each roll up gets half a slice. American cheese melts the smoothest, cheddar adds more flavor, and pepper jack gives them a little kick. A small sprinkle of shredded cheese works too if that’s what you have on hand.
