Creamy shredded chicken seasoned and baked under crushed crackers. This Ritz Cracker Chicken Casserole has become a family favorite and one recipe that we will be having again and again.

    Ritz Cracker Chicken Casserole

    Casserole Recipe:

I love making casseroles. It's so easy to mix everything together and pop in the oven. Plus they taste amazing. I know casseroles can get a bad rap but I can't help it but love them. This Ritz Cracker Chicken Casserole is so simple to make. My husband even told me it was his favorite casserole I ever made! That's saying a lot since I've made a lot of casserole days in my day. Here are a few more casseroles to give a try next.

How to make Ritz Cracker Chicken Casserole:

    • Preheat your oven.
    • Prepare a casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray and set it aside.
    • Mix cooked and shredded chicken with cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and seasonings.
    • Add to the bottom of your prepared casserole dish.
    • Top your casserole with crushed crackers and melted butter.
    • Bake for 20-30 minutes.

    Cooking Tip:

This recipe calls for cooked and shredded chicken. When adding this recipe to your menu you can cut out some work by cooking the chicken ahead of time. I usually make enough for 2-3 meals and it saves me lots of when it comes to dinner. You can read more and check out the recipe here, Slow Cooker All-Purpose Chicken.

Here are more recipes to use any leftover cooked and shredded chicken with:

Chicken Alfredo Stuffed Shells: Stuffed shells are always a hit at my house and we love loaded them up with chicken Alfredo.

Cheesy Ranch Chicken Enchiladas: A new way to make enchiladas and a must-try!

Buffalo Chicken French Bread Pizza: I love buffalo chicken and this pizza is my all-time favorite.

I tried this recipe, but changed it a little to make it a one dish meal. I added frozen vegetables, and chopped up canned potatoes and made it into a a rich, tasty chicken pot pie type of dish with the Ritz. Cracker topping. My daughter and I really don’t like piecrust, but this made an amazing chicken pot pie with a crunchy topping instead of soggy pie crust! Thanks

I used ur recipe as a base. Didn't have sour cream or ritzs so I replaced those. Cottage cream mixed with hidden valley salad dressing. Topped with crushed sc & onion chips. Sautéed chopped onions & mushrooms. It was different.

Thank you for your recipe. Is this something I can prepare a couple of hours ahead of time then just pop it in the oven closer to when I want to serve it?

A family favorite chicken recipe I’ve used for well over a decade is using Ritz crackers as breading for chicken, dip chicken in melted butter and then coat in crackers. Arrange chicken in casserole dish surrounded by chunks of butter and then sprinkle with more cracker crumbs… it’s amazing comfort food and the chicken is always so moist. When I seen this recipe I knew we had to try it this way…. Sooo glad I did! Poached the chicken and shredded it with my mixer but would definitely work well with rotisserie too. A great way to use crackers up before they go stale- but I find myself buying crackers just to make this and everyone knows if they don’t eat them they’ll get this chicken! Thanks for sharing!!!!

I want to freeze half of it. Should I freeze it before I bake it or after I bake it?

Yes I would freeze before baking and would not freeze the cracker. Just top with crackers and bake once you are ready.

Great comfort food casserole. I served with rice and broccoli with garlic bread. I cooked the chicken in the crock pot with water and chicken bouillon (powder kind, not cubes) on high for 3.5 hours. The chicken shreds super easy this way and is super moist. I will definitely make this again.

My family makes a version of this using a box of chicken stuffing mix as the bottom “crust”. The rest we keep the same. It is delicious!

This Ritz cracker chicken casserole was amazing! So easy to fix (if you cook your chicken ahead of time). The crackers on top really ramped it up even more. My family already want me to make it again! (And that’s saying a lot!)

This is such a great go-to recipe for even the most difficult crowds (as long as they aren't lactose intolerant)! I use poached chicken, it's the most fool proof way to cook super moist chicken. But any chicken will work. I've even seen people recommend canned- I don't do canned meat but this would shave even more prep and cook time off. 🙂

What a fantastic recipe. Easy to make. I prepped everything the day before and literally just threw it together at the last minute. I did omit adding any extra salt and instead added a half tsp of poultry seasoning, and sautéed a medium chopped onion, 2 stalks of diced celery, two carrots sliced and some sliced mushrooms. It was so delicious the three of us ate the entire casserole. This will go. On our regular monthly rotation. Cant waited to make it again. I would give it ten stars if I could.

We love this easy casserole dish. We use 2 cans of canned chicken and serve this over rice with a salad on the side. ☺️

I made this wonderful casserole and it has become my favorite! I've made it with cooked chicken strips and Rotisserie chicken, Rotisserie is the best! Everyone raves over it and I make often.
      Thank you.

You can do either. I prefer to do it before baking.
