These Walking Tacos is a recipe I grew up loving. Open a bag of corn chips and top with a flavorful taco chili full of beef, cheese, and taco seasoning and spices.

These are easy to make and great for any party. People will just walk away with them when you serve them!

Walking Tacos in Frito bag and red basket

My mom used to make us Walking Tacos growing up and it was one of my favorite dinners.

We all ate it right out of the mini bag and topped it with all our favorite taco toppings. It's so simple and so delicious.

    What are Walking Tacos?

Walking Tacos are basically Tacos in a Bag. They are tacos made inside an individual bag of chips and eaten on the go.

Use your favorite bag of chips, but most people use Fritos or Doritos. They are great for parties or on the go.

    How to make Walking Tacos:

They get their fun name from how they are eaten. Make your taco chili meat, an open a bag of Fritos or any brand of corn chips.

Fill the bag with the meat and then top with your favorite taco toppings like cheese, salsa, guacamole, sour cream or jalapeños!

Save a little room in the bag to shake it up and mix it, or just use a spoon or fork stir it up before eating.

    Ingredients:

    • Ground Beef
    • Onion (finely diced)
    • Minced Garlic
    • Tomato Sauce
    • Taco Seasoning
    • Fritos or any brand Corn Chips - individual serving size bags

    Optional Toppings:

    • Shredded Cheese
    • Shredded Lettuce
    • Sour Cream
    • Diced Tomatoes

    ingredients for walking tacos

    Directions:

Step one: Cook and crumble ground beef on the stovetop in a large skillet. When no longer pink add in diced onions and cook until tender.

Lastly, add in garlic and allow to cook with beef and onions for 30-60 more seconds.

    • Tip: we also like to make this with a no bean can of chili. We like to use Cincinnati Skyline chili. It's a great substitute and a time saver.

Step two: Add in tomato sauce then season with taco seasoning. Allow to cook on low heat until warm throughout.

Step three: Open personal-size Fritos chips and fill them with meat.

Top with optional toppings and serve.

What should I top my Walking Tacos with?

Here are a few things we like to serve for toppings on these walking tacos.

    • Shredded lettuce
    • Diced tomatoes
    • Salsa
    • Shredded cheese
    • Sour cream
    • Jalapeños

How to assemble the Walking Tacos:

First, you open your bag of chips, put a couple of tablespoons of the taco meat into the open bag of chips. I like to give the bag a little mix here before adding the other toppings.

I then will add any veggies next.

Then the salsa, sour cream, and guac.

Finally, top it all off with jalapeños and shredded cheese.

Can I use other kinds of chips?

While Fritos may be the most popular option to use, you can use any other kinds you want! Doritos Nacho Cheese and/or Cool Ranch are great choices. If you can find individual snack bags of tortilla chips they would work as well.

Here are some of my other Taco Recipes:

Here are a few more of my favorite fun taco recipes.

    • Taco Sloppy Joes: This recipe is so simple and a fun new way to make a classic.
    • Taco Dip: This recipe is one of my favorites for serving at any get-together.
    • Taco French Bread Pizza: The easiest dinner recipe ever! You will love this one.
