So a Dump Cake is literally exactly like the name call. Dump your ingredients in a cake pan, casserole dish, or any other baking pan you have available. Spread it out across your dish and bake!
This Dump Cake is super easy as well because it only have three ingredients!
Ingredient Notes:
- Apple Pie Filling
- Spice Cake Mix
- Butter (melted)
Directions:
Step One – Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare a casserole dish (I used a 9X13) with non-stick spray or oil and set aside.
Step Two – Dump apple pie filling into prepared dish and spread out evenly.
Yes, Dump it in, but you still need to spread it around a little 😉
Step Three – Sprinkle evenly on top the dry spice cake mix.
Step Four – Pour butter evenly over the entire cake.
- Tip: Once you pour on your butter tilt your casserole dish around so the butter moves over all the cake mix.
Bake for 30-35 minutes serve and enjoy! Optional: Whipped cream or ice cream for topping
What’s so special about a Dump Cake?
A Dump Cake is a mix up of a cake and a cobbler. It usually consists of a fruit or pie like filling, mixed together with a box of cake mix and some kind of fat.
They are very sweet and taste amazing with some whipped cream or ice cream on top.
How do you store a dump cake?
With the fruit filling you want to store this dump cake in the refrigerator. If your casserole dish has a cover, cover your cake and put in the frig. It will last 7 days at best in the refrigerator.

This sounds like a cake my mom used to make. Can it be made in a cupcake pan for individual servings?
I have not tried that yet but I do think it would work.
Finally got to try it. My man loved it!
He put choc ice cream on his. I had vanilla with Carmel topping 😋
Excellent and easy to make! I used 1 and 1/2 half sticks of butter to pour over the cake mix It turned out perfect! Will definitely make this again!
Thanks Sue! I’m so glad you liked it.
I put the cake mix in the bottom of my food processor with the blade in place. The I put the grater attachment in place and fed frozen butter through the food tube. Perfect for distributing the butter
Why did mine come out with powder boxed spice cake mix? I followed the directions to a T. I even swished the pan around with the melted butter. What happened?
This is an awesome Fall dessert!
For a little added flavor, I like to mix some pumpkin pie spice either to the melted butter, or sprinkle over the apple pie filling. It just gives that added bit of spice flavor.
Serve with caramel ice cream.
We did this with spice cake and its delicious. I used to make this about 20 years ago in a crockpot and had forgotten about it. So glad i found your blog and this recipe. Thanks!!
Yah! So glad you enjoy the recipe.
Oh I’d love to know how to make in crock pot! I’m thinking it might be more moist!
Can you add raisins also?
Yea, you sure could!
