FAQs

Can I use frozen ribs in the slow cooker?

For best results and food safety, thaw ribs completely before cooking.

Do I need to remove the membrane from the ribs?

It’s recommended because it helps create a more tender texture, but it’s not required.

the ribs placed in the slow cooker.

Can I make these ribs ahead of time?

Yes. The ribs can be cooked ahead and reheated before serving.

Why are my ribs tough?

Ribs need enough time to cook low and slow. If they’re tough, they likely need additional cooking time.

Can I finish the ribs on the grill?

Absolutely. Grill them for a few minutes after slow cooking for extra smoky flavor.

How long to cook Crock Pot Ribs:

Cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 7-8 hours or until your pork is cooked through and tender.

Remember that every slow cooker is different and can cook things differently.

Make sure to check the temperature of your meat before serving.

the ribs cooked in the slow cooker.

How do you know if the ribs are done?

When cooking ribs or any meat with a bone in it, you want to make sure the meat “almost” falls off the bone.

It is possible to overcook ribs, and while you can cook them on high in the slow cooker, I recommend cooking them on low for 6-7 hours.

If the meat is literally falling off the bones, it has more than likely been overcooked. You want the meat to come off with light pressure.

The best placement for ribs in a slow cooker:

You can do a couple of different options. You can curl the ribs along the walls of the slow cooker.

If your ribs are too long, you can slice them and stack them in your slow cooker as well.

  1. I have beef ribs that i want to share with the dog when they are cooked. she can’t have barbecue sauce because anything with tomatoes is bad for dogs. I saw apple cider vinegar mentioned and also root beer and another recipe that said some liquid is needed in the crock pot to get tender meat. The A.C vinegar sounds very bitter but the root beer could be too sweet with the brown sugar in the rub. I also considered trying beef stock or water with beef bouillon. what do you think?
