This Crack Chicken is creamy, cheesy, and loaded with bacon ranch flavor in every bite. Made with just a handful of ingredients, it’s the kind of recipe you can put together with minimal effort and still get a rich, comforting dinner everyone will love. Shred it up and serve it over rice, potatoes, or in a wrap. However, you like it, it’s guaranteed to disappear fast.

Why This Recipe Works

This recipe uses simple, easy-to-find ingredients and comes together with very little hands-on effort. The combination of ranch seasoning, cream cheese, and cheddar creates a rich, tangy sauce that coats the shredded chicken perfectly, while the bacon adds a smoky, salty crunch. It’s endlessly versatile, too, so you can serve it however fits your night.

ingredients for the Crack Chicken.

Ingredient Notes:

  • Chicken Breast, boneless and skinless – The hearty base of the dish; cooks until tender enough to shred easily into the creamy sauce.
  • Chicken Broth – Keeps the chicken moist as it cooks and helps thin the sauce to the right consistency.
  • Dry Ranch Seasoning Packet – Provides the signature tangy, herby ranch flavor that defines this recipe.
  • Cream Cheese – Melts into the sauce to create its rich, creamy texture.
  • Cooked and Crumbled Bacon – Adds smoky flavor and a crisp texture contrast to the creamy chicken. Try my Perfect Oven Bacon for this.
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese – Melts into the sauce for extra richness and a sharp, cheesy flavor.
  • Green Onions – Adds a fresh, mild bite and a pop of color as a finishing touch.

Directions:

Step One – Add chicken and chicken broth to your slow cooker and sprinkle on ranch seasoning. Cube cream cheese then place it on top of seasoned chicken.

Step Two – Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.

Recipe Tip

For best results, cook this on low. Cooking low and slow keeps the chicken from drying out. If you prefer to cook on high, use chicken thighs instead of breasts, they’re more forgiving and stay juicier under faster cooking.

Step Three – Once chicken is cooked use a fork to shred chicken and mix well.

Step Four – Add cheese, bacon, and green onions to the slow cooker and mix to combine. Serve over rice and enjoy.

What to serve with Crack Chicken:

This recipe is great as-is, but I love to serve it on a bed of rice. You could take tortillas and make a wrap out of it for a quick lunch as well. If you need a couple good side dishes to go with this dinner, try my Roasted Vegetables or my Roasted Broccoli.

Tips for the Best Crack Chicken

  • Shred the chicken while it’s still warm — it pulls apart much more easily than once it cools
  • Stir the cream cheese in while the slow cooker is still on so it melts smoothly instead of clumping
  • Use freshly shredded cheddar rather than pre-shredded for a smoother melt
  • Cook your bacon ahead of time and store it in the fridge to save a step on the day you make this
  • If the sauce seems too thick, stir in a splash more chicken broth until it reaches the consistency you like
