Nothing beats a warm apple pie. This Caramel Dutch Apple Pie is baked with fresh caramel and I serve mine with a caramel drizzle.

My classic Dutch Apple Pie Recipe is one of my favorites and I've taken it a step further with this homemade caramel and it's delicious.

Caramel Dutch Apple Pie pouring caramel sauce

Apple pie is easily my favorite dessert. Last week I made the homemade caramel sauce and I thought this mashup would be perfect. I added my homemade caramel to my apples and then drizzled on top.

How to make Caramel Dutch Apple Pie

Step one: Get started by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F. Then roll out the crust and place it in the bottom of a pie pan and set aside.

    sliced apples in a bowl

Step two: In a mixing bowl put all filling ingredients, and mix until apples are coated. Allow your apples filling to sit for at least 10 minutes before adding them to the crust.

    • Tip: Adding sugar to your apples will release water that is in the fruit. You don’t want this water sitting in the bottom of your pie so allow your apples to sit and rest will give your apple time to draw that water out in the mixing bowl.

Step three: Meanwhile, in a separate mixing bowl use a fork to combine all topping ingredients until the mixture is well combined and crumbly. You can use a fork but I also like to get in with my hands. Pinching the butter into small pieces and having them coated in the dry ingredients.

    adding caramel to the pie

Step four: Spoon in apple filling then drizzle on your caramel. Last top with topping. Bake for 50-55 minutes. Allow cooling then serve.

    Caramel Topping:

I love topping my pie with more caramel when serving.

    Caramel Sauce:

You can use any caramel sauce that you enjoy. I prefer to use a homemade caramel sauce and I have a recipe that is simple to make and you only need one ingredient.
