Let’s get started with your Ingredients:
Here is what you will need to make this simple and classic Easy Classic Lasagna recipe.
- Ground beef: You want some fat as flavor in your beef but not so much that it runs and makes a soupy lasagna. We usually use 80%/20% ground beef. When cooking your ground beef you will need oil or nonstick cooking spray for your skillet.
- White onion
- Garlic: I love using fresh minced garlic but to save time you can buy it already mince in the store.
- Basil: I used dried basil that you find in the seasoning section.
- Oregano: I also use dried oregano for this recipe.
- Salt
- Marinara sauce: Use your favorite sauce or make it from scratch. This recipe is made to be easy to put together and using a store-bought marinara sauce a lot of time.
- Ricotta cheese
- Egg
- Fresh parsley: I love using fresh parsley found in the produce section of the store.
- Lasagna noodles: I typically use flat no-boil noodles. This saves me lots of time when making lasagna. You can buy any noodle and prepare it to the package directions.
- Mozzarella cheese
How to Make Lasagna:
Step one: Get started by cooking and crumbling ground beef on a skillet. Then you want to drain fat as needed and then return it to the stovetop.
Next, add onion and garlic and cook until translucent. Season with basil, oregano, and salt. Add marinara sauce and set aside.
Step two: In a separate bowl mix together ricotta, egg, and the fresh parsley.
How to Layer Lasagna:
Step three: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Place about a cup of marinara mix in the bottom of a 9×13 casserole dish.
Place your first layer of noodles on top of that then add a layer of ricotta cheese mix, then marinara mix. and sprinkle with some mozzarella.
Step four: Layer again with noddles, ricotta cheese mix, then marinara mix, and mozzarella.
Depending on the size of the casserole dish you are using you can add in another layer until the dish is near to the top.
How Long to Bake:
Step five: Cover with foil and bake for 35-40 minutes or until cooked through. Remove foil and cook for an additional 8-10 minutes.
- Tip: Allow your lasagna to sit for 15-20 minutes before serving. This will help your lasagna come out perfect slices instead of all following apart.
When you are ready to serve we love serving it with a salad and garlic bread.
Make-Ahead Directions:
You can go ahead and prepare your Lasagna up to 2 days before baking. Just cover it and place it in the fridge.
Then remove and bake according to the directions. Insert a knife to see if it is warm all the way through and cook additional time as needed.
Freezing and Reheating Directions:
Freezing: Lasagna is one of the best meals to freeze and it’s so simple. When making Lasagna for dinner I will sometimes double the recipe and serve one for dinner then freeze the other for later.
When freezing make sure you are baking your Lasagna in a freezer-safe casserole dish or in a foil dish. Once cooked allow it to cool completely then cover with foil and place in the freezer.
Reheating: To reheat your Lasagna allow it to thaw slightly. You want to do this so your pan isn’t too cold. Then place it in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 20-30 minutes or until warm throughout.
You can also reheat slices in the microwave.

I never thought I would lasagna any way but the time consuming way I learned at my Sicilian mothers knee. She made little tiny meatballs and sliced sausage as a layer. But this tastes awesome and is so much easier to make now that I am old!😂😂😂
Thank you so much!
Does it make a difference if you use a glass dish vs a metal throw away pan? I was planning on using a metal pan I know the cook times are different sometimes.
That should not change the cooking time on this.
Do you cook your noodles first?
It depends on the noddle you use. I do not and make sure to buy no boil noodles.
Is this supposed to have two layers of noodles or three? I feel like there should be a layer of noodles on top of the first layer of marinara…
I would never get tired or”sick”of your recipes! I’m even going to look to see if you have a cookbook. Yes I am older and can still appreciate a cookbook laid out on my counter to follow a delious. So no please don’t sell yourself short with that throw away line , ^If you are sick of my recipies”. Never! From one happy cook to another.
Thank you so much Karen! That is so sweet of you. I have always dreamed about doing a cookbook! Maybe one day!
