It’s simple to prepare, can be made ahead of time, and looks adorable on any Easter dessert table.

How to make Dirt Cake:

Start by making your pudding according to the box directions. As the pudding is chilling, crush Oreos and mix with melted butter to make the bottom crust layer. Mix together the cream cheese and Cool Whip to make the filling layer.

Ingredient Notes:

  • Vanilla Pudding Mix – Use instant pudding, not cook-and-serve.
  • Milk – Whole milk creates a richer texture.
  • Oreo Cookies – Regular Oreos work best, but Golden Oreos can be used for a lighter look.
  • Butter – Melted.
  • Cream Cheese – Fully soften for a smooth, lump-free filling.
  • Butter – Softened.
  • Powdered Sugar – Sift if needed to prevent lumps.
  • Vanilla
  • Whipped Topping – Fold gently to keep the filling light and fluffy.

Directions:

Step One – Mix vanilla pudding and milk in a medium sized bowl. Once completely mixed, chill in the refrigerator until set.

Recipe Tip

I used vanilla pudding but you can use your favorite flavor and change it up.

whisking together the vanilla pudding mix.

Step Two – While the pudding is chilling, crush 26 cookies using a blender or plastic bag. Add the cookie crumbs to the pan and pour in melted butter. Mix the crumbs and melted butter together then press into the bottom of the pan.

Recipe Tip

If you would like to crush all the cookies at once you can. The crust uses about 3 cups of cookie crumbs and the rest are for sprinkling on top.

Step 6 continued – Decorate however you prefer. Make it easy with a few Peeps and candy but you can decorate this as much as you want. You can use bunny Peeps also or add green frosting for sprigs of grass.

I used Peeps and Cadbury Eggs. You can also use sprinkles, dyed sweetened coconut, or any of your favorite Easter candy.
