I love these pinwheels for the summer! We made them last week and packed them for the pool. Everyone loved them and they are so easy to make.

Packing a picnic lunch makes pool days or park days way more fun! After a lot of swimming or playing outside a good lunch is important to have.

Plus driving home with hungry kids makes every fast-food restaurant we drive by a necessity for us to stop at. These Italian Pinwheels make it easy to feed hungry kids before the ride home.

How to make Italian Pinwheels:

Pinwheels get their name from how they are made. They are essentially a form of a wrap. You layer your ingredients in a tortilla wrap and then roll.

Nothing beats a classic deli roll. A wrap or rollup filled with quality deli meats and cheeses!

One you have rolled them you wrap them and then place them in the refrigerator to set. Once set cut into the pinwheels and serve.

ingredients for the Italian Pinwheels.

Ingredient Notes:

  • Mayonnaise – We love Duke’s Mayonnaise in this house, but use your favorite brand.
  • Italian Seasoning – Mixed with the mayonnaise to make the spread.
  • Flour tortillas – Use large or 10-inch flour tortillas.
  • Provolone Cheese – Personally, my favorite choice for these pinwheels.
  • Deli Meat – I used salami, ham, and pepperoni for these pinwheels.
  • Banana Peppers – adds a little crunch and spice to the pinwheels.

Directions:

Step One – Start by mixing your mayonnaise and Italian seasoning to make the spread then set it aside.

Step Two – Spread a thin layer of seasoned mayonnaise onto one tortilla wrap.

Towards the middle add 2 slices of provolone cheese across the tortilla, 4 slices of salami, 3 slices of deli ham, 5 slices of pepperoni, and a couple of banana peppers.

Recipe Tip

I bought a package of each ham, salami, and pepperoni. I had some leftover of each and just sharing with you how much I used on each pinwheel, but you can use as much or as little. Make it the way you will like it.

Step Three – Starting at the bottom with the banana peppers roll the tortilla until sealed. Wrap in plastic wrap then place in the fridge.

Repeat until all wraps are made. Leave in the fridge for 10-20 minutes.

Recipe Tip

Wrapping and refrigerating your pinwheels will help them stick together and not fall apart when slicing.

Step Four – Unwrap from the plastic wrap and slice each tortilla into pinwheels. Serve and enjoy.

Different ways to enjoy these pinwheels:

  1. Use Cream Cheese – Instead of mayo, try using some cream cheese to mix in with your Italian seasoning. Cream cheese is a thicker spread option so try using a whipped cream cheese.
  2. Add other veggies – Add lettuce, onion slices or tomato slices to the wraps.
  3. Use any variety of meats – Add some bacon, turkey, or any of your favorite deli meats.

How to store leftover pinwheels:

Store any leftover pinwheels in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They should last about 3-5 days in the refrigerator.

To prevent them from getting stuck together, separate layers with plastic wrap if you need to stack them on top of each other.
