These Sour Patch Grapes are the perfect sweet treat or candy substitute to give the kids. Enjoy them right away or freeze them for a cold treat!
These Sour Patch Grapes are my new favorite candy alternative for the kids.
When you go shopping with the kids and get to the checkout aisle the kids are tempted by all the candies and treats at the checkout.
Well, this new type of “candy” will be a huge hit! Sometimes they are called Candied Grapes or Frosted Grapes.
How to make Sour Patch Grapes:
This recipe is really easy to make. Start by getting your grapes off the stems. Rinse them off and allow them to stay wet.
Pour your Jell-O flavors into separate Ziplock baggies or in a bowl. Have fun and use whatever Jell-O flavors you want.
Put your grapes into the Jell-O powder and gently toss, mix or coat them. You can enjoy them right away or choose to chill them.
Ingredient Notes:
Use any color or flavor of Jell-O you like. Use Sugar Free Jell-O for a lower sugar snack option.
- Green Grapes – removed from stems and washed.
- Cherry Jell-O
- Orange Jell-O
- Lemon Jell-O
- Berry Blue Jell-O
Directions:
Step One – Pour Jell-O powder into separate sealable 1-gallon baggies.
Step Two – Add damp grapes evenly to each different baggie.
Seal and shake to coat grapes.
Step Three – Remove grapes from bag leaving any extra Jell-O powder in the bag.
Serve and enjoy!
Tips for making Sour Patch Grapes:
These Sour Patch Grapes will become a favorite for your kids. A great candy alternative and they are a ton of fun! Here are some additional tips to help you with making these.
- Mix and coat gently – Be careful not to bruise or crush the grapes as you mix them in the Jell-O. Bruised grapes would not be too enjoyable.
- Use toothpicks when serving – These could be a little messy, so use a toothpick to eat these to keep your fingers clean.
- Use any Jell-O flavor you want – Have fun and be colorful! Use whatever Jell-O flavors are your favorite!
Do you have to chill or freeze Sour Patch Grapes?
You do not have to chill these, but if you do you will not regret it!
Chill them in the fridge or even the freezer. Freezing these are an amazing way to upgrade them.
Yes, I do mean an upgrade. Frozen Sour Patch Grapes are probably the best way to serve these.
How to freeze Sour Patch Grapes:
Once the grapes have been mixed get a baking sheet and line it with parchment paper.
Place the grapes on there to allow them to dry a little and for the Jell-O to set on them.
You can place the baking sheet directly into the freezer if you have room, or gently place them in a large Ziplock bag.
Allow them a couple hours to freeze before you take them out. Once frozen you do not want to allow them to thaw. Eat and enjoy them frozen.
