I love this classic Tuna Salad recipe. It’s the best lunch recipe and easy to make and done in 15 minutes or less. Make a sandwich or add it on top of a salad.
This Tuna Salad is a classic. I grew up eating them, and no I make them for the kids. It’s so simple to make and one of my favorite lunch recipes.
It is perfect for sandwiches or to top a salad. I recommend a thick slice of white or wheat bread for a sandwich. My husband loves to add a piece of Swiss or Cheddar Cheese on his tuna salad sandwiches.
How to make Tuna Salad:
This recipe is so easy to make and can easily be made to taste. Drain your tuna, then add all the ingredients to a large mixing bowl and mix together well.
Once the tuna has been mixed make your sandwich or salad that you are going to top with the tuna.
Ingredient Notes:
To make this tuna salad you will need:
Tuna: I used a can of tuna in water. I prefer to use chunk light tuna, but you could also use Albacore tuna.
Celery and Onion: Make sure to finely dice your celery and onion so they are easy to eat.
Mayonnaise: I love to use Duke’s mayonnaise and you can use whatever your favorite mayonnaise is.
Mustard: I use yellow mustard for this recipe, but you could use brown or Dijon.
Salt and Pepper: Add salt and pepper to taste or skip totally. You can mix everything above and then add the salt and pepper to taste after.
Optional for Serving: Depending on how you will serve your tuna salad you will need sliced bread or lettuce for a salad.
Directions:
Step one: Place all ingredients in a bowl. Mix until well combined.
Step two: You can serve this on crackers, salad, or bread.
Storing Tuna Salad:
Tuna salad can be placed in the fridge right away in an airtight container for up to 3 days. I do not recommend storing it longer than that.
If it produces some water in storage drain it before use. If it is dry, add a tablespoon of mayo to it and give it a mix before serving.
How to make a Tuna Salad Sandwich:
Making the perfect sandwich is simple. Just follow these steps and enjoy!
Step 1 – Get your two pieces of bread arranged on a plate. Spread some extra mayonnaise or mustard on the bread if you like.
Step 2 – Place a slice of lettuce on one side of the bread.
- Optional: if you are like my husband place you slice of cheese on the other side of the bread.
Step 3 – Scoop your tuna salad on to the middle of the bread and use a knife or spoon to spread it to the edges.
Step 4 – Top your sandwich with the other piece of bread and enjoy!
What to serve with your sandwich:
Our family loves to eat chips with our sandwiches. You could also make one of these as a nice side dish if you want!

I make mine similarly except I use pickle relish instead of mustard and sometimes add hard boiled eggs. It makes a good tuna salad!

I’ve been craving tuna salad and found this one that sounds perfect. I will be tripling the recipe. I add chopped hard boiled eggs and maybe a pinch of garlic powder. Next time I will be making Tuna Noodle Casserole. ** Your recipe had exactly what I was looking for + the hard boiled eggs. Thanks for sharing. ** Hello from Missouri. **
