7-Up Salad is a nostalgic, vintage recipe that has been a staple at holiday dinners and potlucks for generations. Made with lime gelatin, crushed pineapple, and lemon-lime soda, this fluffy and refreshing dessert salad is light, sweet, and full of retro charm.

Whether you’re making it for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, or a family gathering, 7-Up Salad always brings back memories.

How to make 7-Up Salad:

Start by melting your marshmallows over low heat with the 7-Up. Once the marshmallows are melted, add in the Jell-O.

Once the Jell-o is mixed in, pour over the cream cheese and mix with a hand mixer until the cream cheese is blended in.

Once smooth mix in the pecans and pineapple. Place in the refrigerator until the Jell-O is set. Once set fold in the Cool Whip and Mayonnaise

ingredients for the 7-Up Salad.

Ingredient Notes:

  • 7-Up – Chill the soda beforehand to help the mixture set properly.
  • Mini Marshmallows – Fresh marshmallows give the softest texture.
  • Lime Jell-O – Use name-brand gelatin for the best texture and set.
  • Cream Cheese
  • Crushed Pineapples – Drain thoroughly to prevent the salad from becoming watery.
  • Chopped Pecans
  • Cool Whip

Make-Ahead Recipe:
Since we usually make this recipe for holiday parties I like to make it ahead of time. You can allow the jello to set overnight then mix in the morning. Or you can complete the recipe in place in the fridge in a bowl with a lid for 2-3 days.

  1. My Mom used to make this every holiday….it was a 60’s recipe….funny how I didn’t really like it but every holiday I miss it on the table….I will try your recipe and see if I like it better…..will pass it down to my grandson in Grandma’s Favorite Recipes…a cookbook I started for him

    1. I think the mayor adds some good flavor to is and cuts the sweetness but I think it can be left out and still work.

  2. I wonder if I could substitute the lime for instant pistachio pudding?? The lime is delicious however I have a few who luv the pistachio.💜

    1. Hey Roberta, Mayonnaise is typically made of oil, eggs, and vinegar while Miracle Whip has the same basic ingredients but with less oil, and the addition of water, sugar, and spices.

  3. I was wondering how can I make this in pink color for a girl baby shower as an appetizer? Any suggestions? Or any simple pink baby shower appetizers to share.
    Thanks in advance 😉

  4. I have the same question. Can you use something instead of the mayo? My son is allergic to it. Maybe half as much sour cream?

    1. Instead of mayonnaise I use cottage cheese. This recipe was handed down to me as well. My family called it Elvis salad. 🙂
