All you need is 4 simple ingredients and you have the perfect side dish. This Easy Classic Coleslaw is a must for summertime and goes perfect with a grill out.

Homemade Coleslaw in a white bowl

    Summer Side Dish:

I love coleslaw, it's a great side dish and a must have for summer time. Anything that we put on the grill tastes better with a side dish of homemade coleslaw. During the summer I make it often and this recipe is my favorite. It's really simple to make and taste amazing.

What do you need for Coleslaw:

    • Mayo
    • Sugar
    • Vinegar
    • Coleslaw mix

How to make Easy Classic Coleslaw:

This recipe is so simple to make. I did use a pre-cut cabbage mix but you could also cut your own. If you do just use the same about that was used with pre-cut.

Step one: Whisk you mayonnaise, sugar, and vinegar together. I used a fork to whisk my ingredients.

Step two: When everything is mix together and your sugar is dissolved then add in coleslaw mix and mix until coleslaw is well coated.

    • Tip: Your sauce should look like the picture below, very creamy.

Step three: Last in the fridge and allow to chill for an hour before serving. This step is optional. You don't have to place it in the fridge to chill but I like it helps the flavors to enhance while it sits.

    What to serve with Coleslaw:

    • Baked Chicken Wings
    • Honey BBQ Chicken Tenders
    • Slow Cooker Ribs
    • Ground Turkey Sloppy Joes
    • Grilled BBQ Ranch Chicken

How long can coleslaw be in the fridge:

This coleslaw can sit in the fridge for up to 4 days and be ready to serve. The coleslaw can get soggy while sitting for a long time and is best served after chilling for an hour in the fridge. If you are making this ahead of time just drain any extra water in as needed then serve.

You are right Barbara I do take some short cuts. Instead of shredding my own I usually spend my time taking care of my son with cerebral palsy. He's home with me all day and needs help with every basic need. But maybe shredded my own cabbage is being lazy to you but I think being his caretaker is just more important. I'm happy to hear that you have the time to make it all from scratch, I envy the freedom you have. Hope you have a wonderful day.

I cannot wait to try your coleslaw recipe. And just because someone decides to use the coleslaw mix, that doesn't make that person lazy. You never know what's going on in someone's life(or maybe that person just doesn't feel like it because of work, etc.).

I finally decided not to buy a bottled slaw dressing. I found this recipe and have used it several times. Everyone raves about it. I'm not sure why I didn't try a homemade version before!
