We love our local Asian restaurant. It is a Japanese Hibachi restaurant, but it also has a few Chinese dishes as well.
One thing we never skip is their egg rolls. They are one of the best side dishes with any Asian food. Well, this love of egg rolls led me to this recipe for you all!
Making this easy Low Carb Egg Roll in a Bowl:
You all know I love an easy recipe! I’ve seen the egg roll in a bowl floating around Pinterest and finally decided I had to try to make my own version.
I, of course, had to only make one that was simple to make and taste great. This version is so good, and you only need a few simple ingredients.
Ingredient Notes:
- Ground Sausage: you can use ground beef or turkey as well but I think the sausage gives it the best flavor.
- Coleslaw Mix: this saves me a lot of time but you can shred your own vegetables as well.
- Minced Garlic – You can use fresh garlic or a jar of minced garlic.
- Ground Ginger – a key spice in Asian food.
- Soy Sauce – I used a low sodium soy sauce.
- Green Onions – fresh green onions diced.
Directions:
Step One: Cook and crumble ground sausage in a large pot. Once cooked drain fat.
Recipe Tip
I love the flavors this ground pork sausage gives this recipe. You could also use ground beef, turkey, or chicken.
Step Two: Add in coleslaw mix and season with minced garlic, ground ginger, and soy sauce. Cook until coleslaw mix is tender.
Step Three: Serve topped with green onions. I garnish my bowl with sesame seeds.
Egg Roll in a Bowl Weight Watchers:
This recipe is perfect for someone who is using Weight Watchers since it’s low in carb and high in protein.
To make this recipe fewer points try using a ground turkey or chicken sausage instead of pork or using ground chicken.
I’m not affiliated with Weight Watchers in any way but have used it before. Make sure to double check this recipe with the points system you are using.

Haven’t tried this yet, sounds yummy. Wondering if you have ever froze this.
Never tried to freeze it. It honestly never makes it past the initial dinner, hahaha. But with the cabbage freezing it would be difficult. I would freeze the meat without the cabbage added though, and that would work.
How long do I cook the Cole slaw mixture in the pot and what level of heat on the stove top?!
I usually do medium heat just until tender.
Should cook the coleslaw mixture on the stove top using some kind of oil?! Like vegetable or olive oil? If so how much? Thank you so much for your help!!
No, I do not use any oil for this recipe.
I made this with turkey sausage. I also added 2 cups cooked brown rice and it was really good
That sounds amazing!
This was a very easy dish to prepare. I even made egg rolls out of the mixture. It was fantastic.
So glad you liked it! Thanks for the feedback!
It was a great and fast meal. I made it again but this time I wrapped the meat in a wrapper and fried it. WOW! Delicious. I also added some chopped green onion and bamboo shoots.
So glad you like it!!
I made this recipe tonight and it was delicious, I liked using the sausage to. Great recipe and easy!!! Thank you very much for sharing!
My wife and I love this recipe. Tried it with Ground Sausage and Ground Turkey. Ground Sausage has so much more flavour then the ground turkey.
We love this, and trying other meat options are a great idea!
Taste great, out of sesame seeds so I used sesame oil for taste. Yummy
That’s a great idea! It would still give that good flavor.
I served over cauliflower rice and added a tbsp of rice vinegar over the top. Delicious!!
I see it says 4 servings. How big is the serving size?
