I’ve been making fresh Pico de Gallo for years. I figure it’s about time I share this recipe with you all! Loaded with fresh tomatoes, onions and jalapenos it has just the right amount of heat.

Seasoned with cilantro and cooled down with fresh squeezed lime juice this Pico de Gallo is best as a topping on tacos or scooped up on a tortilla chip.

What is Pico de Gallo?

Pico de Gallo is also known as Salsa Fresca. It is a traditional Mexican dip that takes equal parts fresh tomatoes and onions.

Add in the cilantro and lime juice. The jalapenos are optional, but they add a nice amount of heat to the Pico.

How to make Homemade Pico de Gallo:

This recipe is super easy to make. Start by dicing and chopping your tomatoes, onions, jalapenos and cilantro.

You want them diced into bite sized bites, so they scoop easily on a chip. Mix it all together and then squeeze some fresh lime juice over it all and give it another mix. Serve with your tacos or just with some chips.

Ingredients Notes:

  • Tomatoes (diced)
  • Chopped Onion – red or white will work.
  • Jalapeno Peppers – seeded and chopped finely.
  • Chopped Cilantro
  • Lime Juice
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Directions:

Step One – Add diced tomatoes, chopped onion, and minced jalapeno peppers to a bowl and stir together. (For less spice skip the jalapeno or try green chilis instead)

Step Two – Add in lime juice and season with salt and pepper to taste. Then serve and enjoy.

What is the difference between Salsa and Pico de Gallo?

One thing that salsa and Pico de Gallo have in common is the ingredients. Salsa is made with the same ingredients blended pretty smooth. Pico de Gallo keeps the ingredients chunky and diced. Sometimes salsa is stewed or cooked before blending to give it a nice roasted flavor.
