Chili is a classic, family recipe:
Chili is easily one of my favorite recipes. Chili has that warm and cozy taste and one of the best comfort foods.
I love making it for a big crowd or just making a big pot to have leftovers for lunch during the week.
This Slow Cooker Turkey is a healthier option than using beef.
How to make Slow Cooker Turkey Chili
This is one of my go-to recipes. Cook your ground turkey, then throw all the ingredients into your slow cooker.
Come back hours later for dinner to be ready. Easy to make and easy to clean up. I wouldn’t have a recipe be any other way for you all!
Ingredient Notes:
- Ground Turkey: Cooked and crumbled before adding it to the slow cooker.
- Tomato Sauce
- Petite Diced Tomatoes
- Yellow Onion
- Bell Pepper: You can use whatever color you have on hand, but we enjoy using yellow for this recipe.
- Garlic: Peeled and minced.
- Seasoning: For this recipe I used chili powder, cumin, and oregano.
- Chili Beans: I used a can of chili beans, but you can use any bean you enjoy.
- Toppings: We serve it with shredded cheese, sour cream, tortilla chips, and for a kick add jalapeños.
Directions:
Step one: When making this chili in your slow cooker you want to start by coking and crumbling your ground turkey.
Once it’s cooked drain the fat and add it to your slow cooker. Add remaining ingredients and stir together well.
Step Three: Serve and top with some of your favorite toppings like cheddar cheese, sour cream or jalapeños.
Somethings you can substitute out in this chili:
- A good healthy alternative to ground turkey would be ground chicken. You can also use beef, like my Classic Chili Recipe here!
- If you do not have Chili Beans in your pantry Black Beans or Kidney Beans would work well also!
- Spice up your chili with some jalapenos or habaneros.
What do I top my chili with?
We usually eat chili topped with these ingredients.
- Sour Cream
- Shredded Cheese
- Green Onions
- Tortilla Chips
- Sliced Jalapeños
- Avocados
Can I make this on the stovetop?
Yes, if you do not have a slow cooker or it is not readily available you can make this on the stove top! You can even make this one of my personal favorite styles of meals, a One Pot Meal!
Cook and crumble your ground turkey in a large pot. Once cooked drain and excess liquid from the pot.
Add in all your remaining ingredients. Mix well and bring to a slow boil.
Once it boils, turn the stove to low and allow to simmer for about 10 minutes.

Hi Jennie,
I want to make this recipe for a girls night I am hosting! I was wondering about how many servings can I get from this recipe? Thanks!
-Rose
Hi Rose! This recipe should easily serve 6 and you can always add more means to make it go further. Hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful girls night!
Tomorrow will be my second time making this recipe. This is the best chili recipe I’ve ever made!
Yah!! So very happy to hear this!
Thanks
I added black beans; kidney beans and green sauce THEN found this recipe. Note to self…no chicken broth next time…I like THICK chili
I’m from Cincinnati where we have what my Dad likes to call “meat soup”! Hahah! He likes the chili really thick also while a little thinner is what I prefer. =)
This was great, I did this with the crockpot chili packet in there too!
Yah! Glad you liked it Amanda =)
Do you have to cook the turkey first? I want to put this in the crockpot early in the morning before I go to work and come home ready to eat.
Yes I cook the turkey first in a skillet then add it to my slow cooker. Hope you enjoy it Lisa!
Hi there! Do you add water or any kind of liquid to the ingredients? Or do you just add the juice from the cans?
Thanks! ๐
I just add the juice from the cans because I like this to be a thick chili but you can add some broth as needed. Hope you enjoy the recipe Katie!
Yum! This looks great! I actually made chilli tonight (but a veggie version). Will have to give turkey mince a try next time!
Ooo!!! This looks so yummy!!! You can’t go wrong with chili!
Yum!! I just switched out the ground beef in my usual chili recipe last night for turkey and my hubby didn’t even notice. Now I’m looking to try more recipes with turkey in them since it’s so much better for you. Thanks for sharing ๐
