Creamy shredded chicken seasoned and baked under crushed crackers. This Ritz Cracker Chicken Casserole has become a family favorite and one recipe that we will be having again and again.

    Ritz Cracker Chicken Casserole

    Casserole Recipe:

I love making casseroles. It's so easy to mix everything together and pop in the oven. Plus they taste amazing. I know casseroles can get a bad rap but I can't help it but love them. This Ritz Cracker Chicken Casserole is so simple to make. My husband even told me it was his favorite casserole I ever made! That's saying a lot since I've made a lot of casserole days in my day. Here are a few more casseroles to give a try next.

How to make Ritz Cracker Chicken Casserole:

    • Preheat your oven.
    • Prepare a casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray and set it aside.
    • Mix cooked and shredded chicken with cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and seasonings.
    • Add to the bottom of your prepared casserole dish.
    • Top your casserole with crushed crackers and melted butter.
    • Bake for 20-30 minutes.

    Cooking Tip:

This recipe calls for cooked and shredded chicken. When adding this recipe to your menu you can cut out some work by cooking the chicken ahead of time. I usually make enough for 2-3 meals and it saves me lots of when it comes to dinner. You can read more and check out the recipe here, Slow Cooker All-Purpose Chicken.

Here are more recipes to use any leftover cooked and shredded chicken with:

Chicken Alfredo Stuffed Shells: Stuffed shells are always a hit at my house and we love loaded them up with chicken Alfredo.

Cheesy Ranch Chicken Enchiladas: A new way to make enchiladas and a must-try!

Buffalo Chicken French Bread Pizza: I love buffalo chicken and this pizza is my all-time favorite.

My kids love sandwiches. So I take this casserole and put it inside a roll with some mash potatoes and they absolutely love it! As for me this casserole hits the spot! Thank you for providing this recipe!

I am planning this recipe for tonight. If I add noodles to the recipe, would you recommend increasing the amount of sour cream or adding in some chicken broth so it isn't too dry?

If you add noodles to the casserole dish I would add more sour cream or cream of chicken soup to help it not dry out. Or I would make the pasta on the side and when you serve just add the pasta on the bottom and spoon the casserole on top.

This is our favorite casserole too but we add a tablespoon of poppy seeds to the crackers and melted butter. So yummy!! It gives it just a little different twist that is so good. Give it a try, you wind be disappointed.

I tinkered around with this recipe, but used it as a guideline. I used 4oz cream cheese instead of sour cream, added some pearl onions and about a cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Also added some heavy whipping cream for moisture, and added crushed french fried onions to the cracker topping. Kept the same spices and followed the cooking instructions as written. Saved some time and trouble by using a bag of Trader Joe’s grilled chicken strips, great for casseroles; you can’t tell the difference. It turned out great and my husband is already asking for it again. Thanks for this wonderful recipe!

I loved this recipe and would like to take some to my sister having having her baby. How much would you add if it was frozen? Or what would be the best way to thaw it?

I would do the same recipe for frozen. I would thaw it in the frig for a few hours. You would be able to heat this in the oven directly though.

I had gotten this recipe from a friend long ago. The difference was using browned chicken tenders. I love the comments with their variations. I always make a new recipe exactly as given the first time, then make it ‘mine’ with variations..

      Great comments!!

Could you use the chicken stock from the make ahead crock pot chicken recipe for other recipes? It's been cooking with the chicken for 4-5 hours.

Yes, of course! They would cook in time with the directions. May have to cook a tad longer. I would probably use a spiral or penne noodle.

I have made it twice, I always double the recipe, big family. 2nd time i added pureed onion didn't have powered onion, a little 1/2 and 1/2 because I like serving this over rice. I love this recipe.

Maybe just a little chicken broth. Instant rice should be a relatively easy addon!

I got the thumbs up from my boys so we'll make this again! Next time, I'd add a tiny bit of milk so thin out the mixture a little and add either some frozen broccoli or peas. Last night, I forgot to do that so I made peas on the side and then just put the chicken on top of them on the plate. Winner! Even my picky son said "not bad"...and for me, that's a win! He loves Ritz so that kicked it over the top. LOL Thanks for the recipe!

Substituted cheddar cheese soup for cream if chicken, used a tablespoon of minced garlic which I sautés with the chicken, then added 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese before adding the cracker topping, added a cup of frozen cauliflower and pearl onions and baked for 40 minutes. It was fabulous. Thank you for the inspiration.

Very good recipe. I didn’t change anything. I can’t stand when someone rates a recipe after they’ve changed it so that it’s not even close to what it started out to be.
I’ll definitely make this again and again.
