My kids love sandwiches. So I take this casserole and put it inside a roll with some mash potatoes and they absolutely love it! As for me this casserole hits the spot! Thank you for providing this recipe!

This was my first Pinterest recipe I ever tried and it was delicious! It’s in the oven right now. This will be my 3rd time making it and it’s always a hit. Thank you for this!!!
Jennie
I am so happy to hear that!!

I am planning this recipe for tonight. If I add noodles to the recipe, would you recommend increasing the amount of sour cream or adding in some chicken broth so it isn't too dry?
Jennie
If you add noodles to the casserole dish I would add more sour cream or cream of chicken soup to help it not dry out. Or I would make the pasta on the side and when you serve just add the pasta on the bottom and spoon the casserole on top.

This is our favorite casserole too but we add a tablespoon of poppy seeds to the crackers and melted butter. So yummy!! It gives it just a little different twist that is so good. Give it a try, you wind be disappointed.
Jennie
That does sound good! I have been enjoying Everything Bagel Seasoning, so that might be a good option as well!
Becky
I'm not seeing what size casserole dish to use!??! 9×13
Jennie
Yes 9x13 is what I use.

I tinkered around with this recipe, but used it as a guideline. I used 4oz cream cheese instead of sour cream, added some pearl onions and about a cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Also added some heavy whipping cream for moisture, and added crushed french fried onions to the cracker topping. Kept the same spices and followed the cooking instructions as written. Saved some time and trouble by using a bag of Trader Joe’s grilled chicken strips, great for casseroles; you can’t tell the difference. It turned out great and my husband is already asking for it again. Thanks for this wonderful recipe!
Jennie
I'm glad you enjoyed the recipe. Sounds like your really made it your own!
Amy
One word to describe this is “YUMMY “. Thank you
Jennie
So glad you like it!

I loved this recipe and would like to take some to my sister having having her baby. How much would you add if it was frozen? Or what would be the best way to thaw it?
Jennie
I would do the same recipe for frozen. I would thaw it in the frig for a few hours. You would be able to heat this in the oven directly though.

I had gotten this recipe from a friend long ago. The difference was using browned chicken tenders. I love the comments with their variations. I always make a new recipe exactly as given the first time, then make it ‘mine’ with variations..
Great comments!!

Could you use the chicken stock from the make ahead crock pot chicken recipe for other recipes? It's been cooking with the chicken for 4-5 hours.
Jennie
Oh yea! That would be excellent!
Beth
This was wonderful, Thank you for the recipe.
Jennie
Thank you! Glad you like it!

would i be able to add noodles to this? what kind would be best?
Jennie
Yes, of course! They would cook in time with the directions. May have to cook a tad longer. I would probably use a spiral or penne noodle.

I have made it twice, I always double the recipe, big family. 2nd time i added pureed onion didn't have powered onion, a little 1/2 and 1/2 because I like serving this over rice. I love this recipe.
Jennie
As fast as my guys eat this, I should be making double the size as well! I'm so glad you enjoy this! Thank you!

Can’t wait to try this! Could I add instant rice to the bottom of the dish? Would I need more liquid like chicken broth?
Jennie
Maybe just a little chicken broth. Instant rice should be a relatively easy addon!
A. Szostak
sound wonderful I will have to try it, thinking about adding some frozen mixed vegetables to the chicken mixture
Jennie
That would be excellent. I have a recipe coming out on the blog soon, I think you will love!
Martha
I’m wondering- if I add a package of dry onion soup mix should leave out the other dry seasonings?
Jennie
That could work if you like those flavors instead!
Melissa
This was so good definitely will be making this again thanks !
Jennie
Thank you!

I got the thumbs up from my boys so we'll make this again! Next time, I'd add a tiny bit of milk so thin out the mixture a little and add either some frozen broccoli or peas. Last night, I forgot to do that so I made peas on the side and then just put the chicken on top of them on the plate. Winner! Even my picky son said "not bad"...and for me, that's a win! He loves Ritz so that kicked it over the top. LOL Thanks for the recipe!
Jennie
Glad you all like it! I'll be having a recipe coming coming up soon I think you will enjoy, Chicken Pot Pie Casserole.

Substituted cheddar cheese soup for cream if chicken, used a tablespoon of minced garlic which I sautés with the chicken, then added 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese before adding the cracker topping, added a cup of frozen cauliflower and pearl onions and baked for 40 minutes. It was fabulous. Thank you for the inspiration.

I am on weight watchers, I need to know the serving size bc it looks fattening but very good. Love finding new dishes!!
Jennie
About 1 cup would be the serving size.
Sara
Can this dish be frozen
Jennie
You sure can freeze it. I like to let it fully cool, then move it over to a freezer safe container.
Lusa
Very good recipe. I didn’t change anything. I can’t stand when someone rates a recipe after they’ve changed it so that it’s not even close to what it started out to be.
I’ll definitely make this again and again.
Jennie
Thank you so much!
